Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) Welding Technology/Upper Moreland High School senior, Ricky Collins, provided an oxy-fuel cutting demonstration to the juniors in his Welding Technology program on September 14, 2016. Oxy-fuel cutting consists of processes that use fuel gases and oxygen to weld and cut metals.
As part of the Welding Technology program, Meghan Cicchino, Welding Technology Instructor, provides her students instruction in combination welding, fabrication, MIG welding, gas welding and cutting. She also provides her students with the professionalism to demonstrate their skills to other students or tour groups that come through the program.
“I am proud of my students and their ability to confidently demonstrate their skills,” said Ms. Cicchino. “Ricky provided the juniors in his class a thorough explanation of the oxy-fuel cutting process, and was able to show them the proper way to accomplish the cuts. In the welding field, an equal mix of confidence and technical skills provide graduates with an edge in the workforce.”
Welding Technology is designed for the student who is interested in the industrial engineering field. The program prepares students for success in such career fields as mechanical, aerospace or industrial engineering, physical metallurgist, business owner, teaching, equipment sales and welding engineer.
