Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) Welding Technology/Lower Moreland High School senior, Roman Malyj, presented information on his EASTERN program to the Lower Moreland School Board on Wednesday, January 6, 2016. Roman, a third year Welding Technology student at EASTERN currently maintaining an A average, recently began a paid internship as a Welder Fitter at Tescor, Inc. in Warminster. Roman is passionate about the career and technical opportunities available at EASTERN, and asked to address the Lower Moreland School Board regarding his experiences and successes.
At Tescor, Roman works four afternoons per week, and reports to EASTERN every Monday with a weekly assessment from his Tescor supervisor. This unique experience was made available to him through the many internship partnerships set up by EASTERN. Throughout its 50 years in existence, EASTERN has made business partnerships and collaborations a priority in the learning process, offering both work opportunities and college credits.
“I felt as though it was important to let the school board know about my experiences at EASTERN,” said Roman. “I have gained skills that will benefit me for a lifetime. I want to make sure that all Lower Moreland students are aware of the programs available at EASTERN and the many opportunities these programs can offer in terms of getting a head start on a successful and well paying career.”
Roman chose to attend EASTERN’s Welding Technology program after visiting an Open House. He felt as though the program seemed challenging, and knew it would be a good start to a great career. After high school graduation, Roman plans to continue as a welder or work toward becoming a commercial diver. Commercial divers work below surface of water, using scuba gear to inspect, repair, remove, or install equipment and structures. They use a variety of power and hand tools, such as drills, sledgehammers, torches, and welding equipment.
EASTERN’s Welding Technology program is designed for the student who is interested in the industrial engineering field. Career objectives include Combination Welder, Welder/Fabricator, MIG Welding, and Gas Welding & Cutting.
