Students Receive Presentation on Careers in Water Management

On April 6, 2016, 80 students from Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) MikeNelsonWelding Technology, Electrical Technology and Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning programs received a presentation from Mr. Mike Nelson, from Mike Nelson Consulting Services LLC, regarding water and wastewater management, the different skills needed in the field, the career opportunities available, and the practical aspects of water and wastewater management.

Mr. Nelson trains water and wastewater operators and is very active in the Eastern Pennsylvania Water Pollution Control Operators Association (EPWPCOA). EPWPCOA’s mission is to educate the general public on the importance of the wastewater industry in protecting the environment. Throughout the school year, EASTERN invites many speakers and representatives from local businesses and postsecondary institutions to the school in order to provide students with information on a wide range of career opportunities available to them. EASTERN’s instructors and administration strive to provide first
class career and technical education while also developing and promoting a green workforce, making Mr. Nelson’s presentation very relevant and interesting to our students and instructors. As a follow-up, Mr. Nelson plans to organize a field trip for EASTERN students to a local operating plant to supplement their knowledge of this important industry.

EASTERN’s half-day career and technical programs for high school juniors and seniors in Eastern Montgomery County include Allied Health, Automotive Technology, Collision Repair Technology, Commercial Art, Computer Network Administration, Construction Technology, Cosmetology, Culinary Arts, Electrical Technology, Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning, Office Management, Protective Services, Veterinary Science, and Welding Technology.
