Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) Veterinary Science/Abington Senior High School senior, Grace Henry, has been selected by her Veterinary Science Instructor to take on an important role in a new partnership with Wags Rescue & Referral (Wags) in Southampton. EASTERN’s Veterinary Science program will work with Wags to groom the animals and get them adoption-ready. This includes grooming, photographing the animals for the Wags website, and writing the animal description.
Wags strives to place animals in their care in the most appropriate and permanent living situation. Until that perfect home can be found, animals remain in the care of one of their dedicated foster parents. Grace will be the contact for the foster families. She will work with them to schedule grooming, photos, and work with the foster family on an accurate description of the animal and its personality.
“Working with animals, especially rescue animals, has always been a priority for me,” said Grace. “Being selected by my teacher to take the lead on many aspects of this project is such an honor. Wags is dedicated to finding these abandoned animals the best homes possible, and for our Veterinary Science class to play a part in the process is exciting.”
Grace is an honor roll student at Abington Senior High School and a member of their National Honor Society. At EASTERN’s Annual Awards Night held last May, Grace received the Straight A Award. After graduating from Abington Senior High School and EASTERN, she plans to attend a postsecondary program for animal science.
Veterinary Science provides the opportunity to prepare for careers in the animal care industry and will provide students with a working knowledge of small animal industries. In this two-year half-day program, students will learn to support veterinarians by providing assistance during animal examinations; treatment administration and monitoring; managing animal and related health record information; and how to perform a range of selected practice-related duties.
