On January 27, 2016, Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) will partner with the Culinary Arts Institute of Montgomery County Community College (MCCC) for the Commercial Baking and Culinary Arts SkillsUSA Pennsylvania District 2 competitions. SkillsUSA Pennsylvania District 2 offers competitive activities in which career and technical students strive to win in a variety of job skills and leadership areas – including those in the foods industries.
The Culinary Arts Institute of MCCC is located at 1400 Forty Foot Road, Lansdale, PA 19446. EASTERN has had a long and successful partnership with MCCC through dual enrollment agreements with several EASTERN programs – Allied Health, Computer Network Administration, and Office Management. EASTERN and MCCC have also collaborated on a very popular articulation agreement to benefit EASTERN’s Culinary Arts students who continue their culinary education at MCCC.
“We are very pleased to continue building upon our partnership with MCCC, and appreciate all of their support with EASTERN’s SkillsUSA competition efforts,” said Joe Greb, EASTERN’s Assistant Director. “With EASTERN hosting this year’s SkillsUSA District 2 competition, many of the competitions are held on-site at EASTERN. To have the opportunity to offer competitors the Commercial Baking and Culinary Arts competitions off-site at such a reputable local college is very exciting.”
SkillsUSA competitions begin at the local level, move to the district level, and then continue through state and national levels. It is important for the students to participate in a competition that will reflect a cross-section of the industry skills needed to prepare them for the state and national levels. The SkillsUSA competition theme for the 2015-16 school year is SkillsUSA: Champions at Work – Connecting You to Career Success.
