Dear EASTERN Family,
Last week was a busy week for COVID-19 exposure in our community. Since returning from Thanksgiving break, we have 7 students who tested positive for COVID-19 and another 21 who had to quarantine due to exposure or symptoms. Fortunately, the decision to require schools to revert to virtual learning for the week after the break helped to ensure that these cases had no school exposure at EASTERN. Additional cases and exposures that arose after the break have not, at this point, had exposure in our building, meaning no one who was contagious or positive for COVID-19 was in our building. But we see an alarming rise in cases, many stemming from household members testing positive or students hanging out with friends who subsequently tested positive.
Almost all our districts are operating in a virtual model for the first week of January as an added precaution to mitigate the impact of holiday exposures. EASTERN has made the decision to do the same. January 4-8 will be a virtual week for all EASTERN students. We hope this decision will slow the spread, prevent exposure of COVID-19 in our building, and allow us to have uninterrupted in-person instruction in our hybrid model until things get back to normal.
Thank you for your continued support. I hope everyone had or will have a happy holiday!
