Dear EASTERN Family,

We are looking forward to welcoming our students into our building on Thursday or Monday, depending on the cohort in which they are scheduled. As we prepare for this, please keep in mind the following important information on our protocols:

District/EASTERN Schedule: If your district or high school moves from a hybrid model to a virtual model due to COVID-19 spread, then students from that school or district will also attend EASTERN virtually. For example, Lower Moreland just moved to a virtual model for two weeks (November 4-16) based on data indicating community spread. Students from Lower Moreland will not attend EASTERN in-person during this time.

Reporting Cases: Please email and do not send your child to school if any of the following is true for your child:

  • Your child is symptomatic
    • One (1) of these symptoms
      • Fever (100.4 or higher)
      • Cough
      • Shortness of breath
      • Difficulty breathing
    • OR Two (2) of these symptoms
      • Sore throat
      • Muscle pain
      • Headache
      • New loss of taste or smell
      • Congestion or runny nose
      • Nausea or vomiting
      • Diarrhea
      • Chills
  • Your child tests positive for COVID-19
  • Your child has had direct contact with someone who tested positive for COVID-19
  • A member of your household is symptomatic and awaiting test results after being in direct contact with a confirmed COVID-19 case

The Montgomery County Department of Health will send letters to people who have had direct contact with someone who tested positive instructing them to quarantine. There may be a 24-48 hour lag between the incident and receiving the official letter. We are relying on everyone to function with a mindset of an abundance of caution.

Opting for an Instructional Model: At this point every parent/student has indicated how they wish to start back at EASTERN. If you change your mind over the next couple of days, please contact us at Please remember that students can opt to switch to a virtual model at any time, but may not switch back to a hybrid model until the start of the next marking period. This does not apply to students who temporarily need to quarantine or whose districts move to a virtual model for a short duration.

Resources and Support for Students: We are navigating a tense political climate, social unrest, and living in a pandemic. EASTERN is committed to fostering an inclusive environment that promotes equity and nurtures a safe space for all students. Please see below for a copy of our EASTERN Cares card our staff developed to share with students and parents to help support social and emotional well-being.
