This award recognizes CTE teachers with 3-5 years’ experience (at the middle, secondary or postsecondary level) who have made significant contributions toward innovative and unique career and technical education programs and shown a professional commitment early in their careers. Members employed as full-time classroom/laboratory CTE teachers (at the secondary or postsecondary level) who are relatively new to the teaching profession (with 3-5 years’ experience) are eligible recipients of this award.

Ms. Mednick was nominated for this great honor by Wendy Leyden, EASTERN’s Cosmetology II Instructor, Allison Larson, EASTERN’s Career and Technical Education Supervisor, Meghan Cicchino, EASTERN’s Welding Technology Instructor, Emily Dimant, 2013 EASTERN Cosmetology graduate, and Todd Luke, Vice President of MAX Teaching.

After graduating from Lower Moreland High School and completing her Cosmetology program in 1994, Ms. Mednick obtained her Cosmetology teaching license from EASTERN in 1995. In 2003, she received her bachelor’s degree in Vocational Education from Temple University. For eight years prior to EASTERN, Mednick taught Cosmetology at Jean Madeline Aveda Institute in South Philadelphia. She credits her aspiration to teach to some of the great teacher role models she has had throughout her education.

Ms. Mednick has been involved in numerous committees, activities and events at EASTERN and at the state level. At EASTERN, she is a member of the Safety Committee and is extremely involved in EASTERN’s student leadership organization, SkillsUSA. She is a big proponent of MAX Teaching, a staff-development opportunity for schools interested in improving reading, writing, and learning skills of all students and has presented her experiences with the tool at Integrated Learning Conferences. She has been integral in creating two new committees at EASTERN – the New Teacher Resource Committee to help new teachers be successful, and the EASTERN Beautification Committee to create sculptures for EASTERN’s lobby using program resources.

“I am extremely honored to be recognized for my efforts,” said Ms. Mednick. “I love teaching Cosmetology and I truly enjoy being part of the EASTERN team. This is a great place for all students to get a head start in their career field, and I am proud to be a product of EASTERN’s Cosmetology program.”
