Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) Cosmetology/Springfield Township High School 2014 graduate, Morgan-Victoria Johnson, has served as the Communications Director for the PA House of Representatives in the 154th district since May 2020, and runs an aroma-based business called Mo Vickyy – https://www.morgan-victoria.com/air-aroma. In December 2019, she received her Master of Science in Organizational Development and Leadership from Shippensburg University of Pennsylvania.
Johnson’s Great Grandmother was a cosmetologist and owned a hair salon. Johnson grew up spending a lot of time in her Great Grandmother’s salon and credits her Great Grandmother for instilling in her a love of the hair and the beauty industry. Although Johnson does not currently work as a cosmetologist, she took much of what she learned about customer service and business and applied it to her aroma-based business.
During her second year at EASTERN, Johnson served as the School Wide President for their student leadership organization, SkillsUSA. She also ran a successful jean collection for homeless teens, in which she collected more than 250 jeans. She feels as though her time at EASTERN refined her leadership skills and taught her the benefits of networking. Johnson is sponsoring two monetary awards for the May 2021 Awards Night ceremony in which she will choose one Cosmetology senior, and one senior from any program who is involved in SkillsUSA and active in the community.
“If you’re thinking about enrolling in an EASTERN program, DO IT! If it wasn’t for EASTERN, I wouldn’t have the many connections and friendships that I have now,” said Johnson. “You will gain a skill that can take you places in life whether you go to college or not. Do not underestimate the networking and future success you can gain from EASTERN. When I came to EASTERN, my grades improved, and I found out what I did and did not want to do when it came to future plans. Ultimately, I did not become a cosmetologist (I still have all the skills). I became a leader in every role I had during and after I left. You can too!”
Save thousands of dollars by taking Cosmetology at EASTERN while in high school! This two-year program will provide the skills necessary to begin a career in the cosmetology field. In Pennsylvania, as well as other states, cosmetologists must be licensed to practice in the field. Learn more at https://www.eastech.org/eastern-programs/cos/.
