EASTERN Students Win Big at Leadership Conference


A delegation of 34 SkillsUSA students and four advisors from Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN), participated in the Annual District 2 Career and Technical student Organization’s (CTSO) Leadership Conference at the Pocono Manor Resort on November 19 – 21, 2014. Over 200 students in seven different career and technical centers from Bucks, Delaware and Montgomery Counties attended the Leadership Conference.

SkillsUSA is a national student leadership organization that encourages students to be productive individuals in our democratic society. EASTERN students achieved 25 gold first place awards, 17 second place awards, and 18 third place awards. Most notable of the awards are listed below:

  • First Place Winners:
    • Cheer – Shanna Mooney, Culinary Arts/Hatboro-Horsham High School; Danyelle Sanders, Culinary Arts/Springfield High School; Leslie Ramirez, Office Management/Springfield High School; Rayven Anderson, Culinary Arts/Springfield High School, Hansol Kim, HVAC/Abington High School; and Gabe Bermudez,
      Protective Services/Upper Moreland High School. Notebook – Gabe Bermudez, Protective Services/Upper Moreland High School; Nicole Peck, Commercial Art/Upper Dublin High School; Sean Hagerty, Automotive Technology/Upper Dublin High School; Ashley McGlinsey, Allied Health/Upper Moreland High School; and Bobby Twaron, Culinary Arts/Abington High School; Brian Farrell, Computer Network Administration/Springfield High School.
    • Leadership Trophy – Annamarie Desimone, Cosmetology/Upper Dublin High School; Hansol Kim, HVAC/Abington High School; Kevin Kubachka, HVAC/Upper Moreland High School; Shanna Mooney, Culinary Arts/Hatboro-Horsham High School; and Elissa Sierra, Office Management/Upper Moreland High School.
    • Spirit Trophy – All 38 EASTERN participants, including EASTERN advisors, received first place for school spirit and now hold the coveted Spirit trophy.
  • Second Place Winners :
    • Door Sign – Kevin Koerner, Commercial Art/ Springfield High School.
    • Notebook – Samantha Curtin, Cosmetology/Hatboro-Horsham High School; Leslie Ramirez, Office Management/Springfield High School; Kathryn Iggi, Protective Services/Upper Dublin High School; and Jake Gerstemeier, Electrical
      Technology/Abington High School.
  • Third Place Winners:
    • Pin/Slogan – Kevin Koerner, Commercial Art/Springfield High School.
    • Two Minute Speech – Ryan Driesbach, Collision Repair Technology/Upper Moreland High School.
    • Notebook – Anthony Davis, Collision Repair Technology, Cheltenham High School; Anita Gallagher, Commercial Art/Abington High School; Katya
      Ivanovski, Culinary Arts/Upper Dublin High School; Sue Ji Mun, Culinary Arts/Upper Dublin High School; Danyelle Sanders, Culinary Arts/Springfield High School, and Amberlyn Williams, Commercial Art/Upper Moreland High School.
    • Outstanding Student – Anthony Davis, Collision Repair  Technology, Cheltenham High School.

Anita Gallagher, 2014 – 2015 Pennsylvania State Officer, was recognized for her work and support in planning and delivering another successful conference.
