Alumni Spotlight: Juan Paolo Figueras

Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) 2014 Computer Network
Administration/Springfield High School graduate, Juan Paolo Figueras, is currently completing a year in Germany through the NACEL Open Door Congress-Bundestag Vocational Scholarship.

Juan-Paolo-FiguerasWhile Figueras was a senior in high school he applied for, interviewed for, and secured the scholarship. He went to Germany with 24 other American students and took part in an intense German language program for two months. Then after two months, they all separated and moved on to a nine month period with host families. Now, Figueras is currently working for Targobank as Desktop Support.

“The best part of this trip for me so far is being able to get an internship in the field that I am interested in and working with a lot of nice people who help me when I need it,” said Figueras. “EASTERN prepared me for this by helping me build up my self-confidence. I really believe that you have to have confidence when you get into this program. EASTERN had always made me want to step outside of my comfort zone. During my time at EASTERN, I started to become more self-competitive than ever before and learned to believe in myself. I know I can overcome any obstacles that I will face.”

When Figueras returns from Germany, he will attend Penn State University for Information Sciences and Technology. Ultimately, Figueras would like to work in the IT cyber security field. While at EASTERN, Figueras was the September 2013 Student of the Month. During his junior year at EASTERN, he was selected as the Executive Advisory Committee (EAC) student representative. The  EAC is comprised of business and community leaders who advise the Joint Operating Committee of EASTERN on the training needs of business and industry.

In EASTERN’s Computer Network Administration program, students must pass the Certified Linux Administrator (CLA) exam in the first year of the program and are prepared for other industry certification exams, including Cisco Certified Entry Network Technician (CCENT).
