Jason Hammer, 2016 graduate of the Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) Welding Technology/Abington High School, visited EASTERN on October 31, 2016 to speak to current Welding Technology students about his experiences at EASTERN and how they prepared him for his current position as a Fabrication Welder at Havis, Inc. in Warminster. Jason is also sponsoring an award for a 2017 EASTERN graduate at the annual Awards Night ceremony in May to give back the school that prepared him for his career.
During his time at EASTERN, Jason was a student ambassador and spoke to parents and potential students at many recruitment events. At Awards Night in May 2016, he was honored with the Scully Welding Award and the Catherman Award. He was the student representative for the Welding Technology Occupational Advisory Committee, a group of individuals from local business and industry who help EASTERN teachers and administrators to define curriculum and tools for each program.
As a graduate, Jason has remained on the Welding Technology Occupational Advisory Committee. Jason learned of the job opening at Havis, Inc. through his Welding Technology Instructor, Meghan Cicchino at a Welding Technology Occupational Advisory Committee Meeting in September.
“If traditional education is not for you, and you want to get a head start on your career – EASTERN is the right choice,” said Jason. “It offers you the opportunity to do something you chose to do for half of your school day. Learning to weld has been so beneficial for me. It is definitely the right career field for me and there is a demand in this career field.”
Welding Technology at EASTERN is designed for students interested in the industrial engineering field. Career objectives include Combination Welder or Welding Production Assistant.
