Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) 2011 Welding Technology and Hatboro-Horsham High School alumni, Ron Eberz, has been enjoying a successful career with Donjon Marine in Port Newark, New Jersey as a Commercial Diver.
After graduation from EASTERN and Hatboro-Horsham High School, Eberz worked as a welder for five years before attending school at the Ocean Corporation in Houston, Texas. He completed his Commercial Divers Certification in September 2017. He chose this certification to keep his career options open. For the past year, he has been working for Donjon Marine as a Salvage Diver which includes deep water diving for lost items, including sail boats and planes.
Over the last year, he has worked five months in Puerto Rico working on pumps to reduce storm water for FEMA cleanup efforts. He was part of the Donjon Marine team that ensured the towns affected by hurricanes were safe from flooding. He is still using his welding skills in this position and he feels as though these skills are part of the reason he was hired. Donjon Marine often hires individuals who are multi-talented in the skilled trades.
“My education at EASTERN helped me establish a career in the skilled trades,” said Eberz. “Working in the skilled trades also helps refine your customer service skills. I also credit my education at EASTERN for helping me to clearly understand what my employer is asking for.”
Good welders make good money. This two-year career program is designed for the student who is interested in the industrial engineering field. Students will learn about the properties of different types of metals and how to join them using state-of-the-art welding equipment.
