On Friday, October 17, 2014, Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) Cosmetology/Abington High School seniors, Tori Skrot, Amber Lehotsky, Tamia Osborne, Ilsa Gruber, and Gabby Monterosso, provided nail services at Abington High School’s Annual Student Involvement Day.
Gretchen Hanson, Abington High School teacher and coordinator for Student Involvement Day, reached out to EASTERN for students to participate in this popular event since Abington High School is one of EASTERN’s largest participating schools. Cosmetology seemed a good fit since their supplies could be easily transported to Abington High School’s football field where the event was held.
“This is a great opportunity for our students to show their Abington peers what it is they learn at EASTERN,” said Wendy Leyden, EASTERN’s Cosmetology Instructor. “They had a steady stream of customers throughout the event, and enjoyed demonstrating their skill and creativity.”
EASTERN’s Cosmetology program is a two-year half-day program that provides the skills necessary to begin a career in the cosmetology field. In Pennsylvania, as well as other states, cosmetologists and nail technicians must be licensed to practice in the field.
