Meghan Cicchino, Eastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) Welding
Technology instructor since 2014, is now an American Welding Society Certified Welding Inspector (CWI®). The CWI is widely recognized, both nationally and internationally, and successful companies have come to rely on this certification when ensuring the highest level of quality workmanship.
Cicchino was the only female in her 40 hour CWI Seminar and during the 8-hour examination. The exam included testing on welding codes, fundamental theories of welding, and a hands-on portion in which the candidates apply inspection methods to actual weld samples.
“This certification is not only an outstanding accomplishment for Mrs. Cicchino, but it also now qualifies EASTERN as a remote testing facility affiliated with the Welder Training & Testing Institute (WTTI) located in Allentown,” said Tom Allen, EASTERN’s Executive Director. “Mrs. Cicchino is now qualified to supervise students taking the D1.1 qualification test for structural steel welding, and to perform inspections on all welds. This is a great example of our career and technical instructors continuously looking to add value to our programs.”
Now, students completing EASTERN’s Welding Technology program can graduate as a certified welder. Prior to this certification, students would need to schedule this test elsewhere – and outside of school hours. Cicchino’s CWI will also benefit EASTERN’s Welding Continuing Education evening program for adults.
“I am proud to enhance the value of EASTERN’s Welding Technology program for our students, and I am proud to be a female in this rewarding field,” said Cicchino. “We now have this valuable partnership with WTTI and a new and exciting offering for student welders who are getting ready to enter the workforce.”
