Continuing Education Student Spotlight – Bob Reif

BobReifEastern Center for Arts and Technology (EASTERN) Electrical Technology Continuing Education student, Bob Reif from Northeast Philadelphia, is in his fourth year of the program. Reif recently obtained a new position working for Solar City based out of Norristown. Solar City is the leading fullservice solar provider in Pennsylvania.

Reif is currently an installer of residential photovoltaic solar systems on residential buildings for Solar City. Prior to this position, Reif was a facility operations manager, and was self-employed as a renovations subcontractor. As a subcontractor, he become more and more interested in the electrical side of construction, and wanted to learn more. An electrician he was working with several years ago was an EASTERN alum, and highly recommended the Continuing Education Electrical Technology program to Reif.

“There is more to electrical technology than people realize,” said Reif. There are communications, high voltage work, residential, and commercial aspects. There are many different facets to the electrical field, and this course encompasses all of them. The professional instruction on how to do things make things a lot easier to grasp concepts and code requirements.”

After completing the four-year apprenticeship program at EASTERN, Reif will have completed the instructional portion necessary to obtain his journeyman’s license, but will still need more “on-the-job” hours to obtain his license. He is looking forward to continuing working on the hours necessary with Solar City and will eventually sit for the Philadelphia Electricians Exam. Reif feels as though the education he has received at EASTERN has helped him on the job. Reif has encouraged other mechanically inclined individuals to enter the program at EASTERN.
